Borderline Personality Disorder

About this training. The so-called “limit” or borderline structure is a disorder of personality and narcissism — a diagnosis in wide circulation today, but by no means a catch-all. Its clinical semiology, closely bound up with the evolution of our societies, was first mapped by Otto Kernberg and Heinz Kohut in the United States and later by Jean Bergeret in France. These patients show marked affective insecurity, hypersensitivity and a poor tolerance of frustration; their relationships swing between anaclitic dependency and an aggressive manipulativeness that provokes rejection. Inner emptiness, depression and intrapsychic conflict are discharged through violent acts, sudden ruptures, suicide attempts, ordeal behaviour and substance use. The course examines the disorder’s etiology, its clinical semiology, and finally its management.

Educational objectives

  1. Understand and analyse the psychic processes of the borderline structure.
  2. Recognize borderline personality disorder — its characteristics, its overlaps with other disorders, and what sets it apart.
  3. Acquire tools for reflection on the management, assessment and accompaniment of adolescent or adult borderline patients.
  4. Be able to differentiate between the various personality organisations.

Educational materials. Seven videos on borderline states; a 20-question test at the end grants a certificate of completion (70% correct answers required).
