Resilience in Older Adults

The issue. Attachment does not wither with age — quite the opposite: older adults are often acutely sensitive to it, wrestling with feelings of uselessness and isolation. Those feelings may surface as aggression, or as depressive and anxious symptoms, frequently leaving caregivers at a loss.

The need. This course shows mental health professionals how to ease the suffering of older adults, restore the bond between care staff and elderly people, and centre the work on attachment and resilience.

Topics covered

  • Resilience in older adults
  • Protective factors for healthy aging
  • The feeling of security
  • Vulnerability factors linked to Alzheimer’s disease
  • Defense mechanisms
  • Ethology as a window onto cognitive and physical abilities
  • Unusual relationships
  • Münchhausen syndrome

Who is it for? Psychologists, psychiatrists, psychology students, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, social workers and other mental health practitioners.

Duration. Two hours of online training in four parts, delivered remotely and completed entirely at your own pace; a 10-question test is offered at the end.

Instructor. Boris Cyrulnik, neuropsychiatrist, lecturer at the University of Toulon (France) and teacher at the University of Mons, is the author of numerous bestsellers, among them A Wonderful Misfortune, Ugly Ducklings and Talking About Love at the Edge of the Abyss.

Certification. The 20-question test unlocks once all modules are completed; a score of 70% earns you a certificate of achievement, with unlimited, penalty-free retakes. The certificate states the course title, the number of hours, and your name.
